World Water Day
Celebrated every year on 22 March since 1993,official slogan was chosen from contestants of 180 countries. Ms Megha Kumar from India was the winner: “Water, Water Everywhere, Only if We Share”.
UN Water is a dedicated organ of UN and was set up in2003. It coordinates water related efforts among member countries helps them to acnisers hieve centrally defined water preservation goals and chooses a theme.2013 is also the International Year of Water Cooperation.
Tajikistan has propsed the need of water cooperation and sharing it equitably and organisers are having a bold claim to “use water as an instrument of peace.”
I ein September 2013 , event World Water Week and will take place in Stockholm where experts will meet to discuss the planet’s most urgent water-related issues.
97 % of water in oceans, 2 % in glaciers etc and only 1 % of potable water is available for seven billion population of the earth. Out of this 1 % , 60 % is used for agriculture and industry and only 40 % is used for domestic consumption.
