Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958

ARMED FORCES SPECIAL POWER ACT

The act passed in 1958 gave special power to armed forces to act in disturbed areas of all north eastern states (seven sisters). In 1990, the act was extended to J&K
This act gives power to armed forces, viz enter into any premises, open fire after giving due warning, arrest any person without warrant, legal immunity for action etc.

Of late, there has been a strong demand for revocation of the act in J&K. Even in the wake of terrorist attack on CRPF  camp, the demand is still being made by certain section.
