the Lessons Learned and Reconciliation Commission


 A commission of inquiry appointed by Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapksa , to enquire into post war lessons and for reconciliation among the various communities. The UN has estimated that  about 40,000 civilians died in five months before the Lankan army's all-out war against the LTTE ended in May 2009 with the killing of rebel leader V. Prabhakaran.

DMK which has withdrawn support from the UPA government , because of the issue of atrocities on the Tamilians should be named 'genocide' in UNHCR resolution and press for an international inquiry against the war crimes by Sri Lankan army during the final phases of civil against the Tamil Tigers, LTTE. The resolution on alleged war crimes in Sri Lanka  is before the United Nations Human Rights Council.
