The Suez Canal is an artificial sea-level waterway in Egypt, connecting the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea.
It was opened in 1860, for a direct sea communication between Asia and Europe without circuiting Africa. It was an important landmark in 1973, when Israelis and Egyptians fought across the oppisite banks. But now the entire Sinai desert is back with Egypt, after Camp David summit in 1979.

The terrain is semi desert / plain and suitable for communication development on both sides of it.

Suez Canal corridor proje was conceived by Hosni Mobarak in 1990s and now pursued vigorously By the current President Morsi, who visited India.

the project aims to transform 164 km long canal zone into a major world trading, industrial and economic zone and earn billions of dollars. Morsi wants  India to join its ambitious Suez Canal corridor project which once ready would make Egypt a hub for India's exports to the West and boost Indian exports to $200 billion.
