Akash Missile

Akash Missile is a medium range surface to air missile which can target an aircraft upto 18,000 m and 30 km away. ITR was established in 1989 and it is spread over a length of 17 km along seacoast where number of electronic equipment are deployed to test the flight path. Akash system is fully mobile and can be launched from a wheeled or tracked (like tanks) platform and can provide protection to our vehicular and armoured columns from enemy aircrafts, while on the move.

  1. Each missile is expected to have starting costs below US$ 500,000, i.e. under 20 million, which is less than half the cost of similar Western missiles which usually cost between US$ 1.2-1.5 million ( 50-60 million) each.
