The “White Canada” policy.

The “White Canada” policy.
It laid down in the Immigration Act of 1910, and extended in the Immigration Act of 1952. The policy was ended in the Immigration Regulations of 1967, when a non-racial set of admission criteria was adopted.
The Canada's justification behind the “White Canada” immigration policy was the preservation and cementation of the primary role of Canada’s founding peoples of European origin. The idea that other peoples (who had taken no part in the settlement efforts and in the centuries-long creation of the institutions and infrastructure of Canada) might simply arrive in mass numbers to claim Canada as equally their own was anathema to Canadians before the establishment of multiculturalism.
The new 1967 immigration regulations emphasised skill and education rather than ethnic origins for regulation immigration.

The story of the Komagata Maru

The story of the Komagata Maru . 376 aspiring immigrants, mostly Punjabis, reached Vancouver aboard the Japanese ship Komagata Maru. The Komagata Maru entered Burrard Inlet. All 376 passengers were looking forward to starting their lives in Canada. They were denied entry on the basis of the continuous journey regulation and forced to leave after two months. Upon their return to India, 19 died in firing by the British troops.

Continuous Passage Regulation.

Continuous Passage Regulation.
Canada’s discriminatory Continuous Passage Regulation was a law that required immigrants to Canada to arrive by a single, direct journey from their country of origin. Because no direct route between the Dominion of Canada and India existed, this policy was a roundabout means to exclude Indian immigration and preserve — in the words of a popular song of the time — “White Canada forever.” Otherwise, both Canada and India were under British empire and should have been legally permitted.
