New Defence Procurement Policy

The Defence Acquisition Counci (DAC) headed by Defence Minister A K Antony has announced change in defence procurement policy where ' made in India ' will be preferred than buying globally last among the five choices.
India is the top most global arm importer accounting for 12 % arms transfer between 2008-2012.

Orders of preference are- Buy Indian, Buy and then make in India , Make in India, Buy and then make with transfer technology and lastly buy globally. Private companies- medium and small are also being incorporated.

 Private players will also be allowed repair, maintenance, overhaul etc which were erstwhile exclusively given to Public Sector Undertakings.
