India’s high-altitude astronomical observatory at Hanle.

Operated by Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore, it one of the world highest site for 

optical, infrared and gamma-ray telescope.Located at 4500 m ,it is world second highest 

optical telescope . It is about 300 km south east of Leh ( J&K).

It is close to chumar , which was in the news for violation Indian airspace by two Chinese 

helicopters.
