Canada's foreign minister, John Baird has expressed unhappiness over Sri Lanka being chosen to host 2013 Commonwealth Summit, to be held in November. Since Sri Lanka has failed in the fundamental values of commonwealth values of Human right , he said that "Canada finds it appalling that the government in Colombo would be given the honour and the privilege and responsibility of hosting Commonwealth leaders."
A brutal 26 year war left at least a lakh dead. Final phase of the war which ended in 2009, left thousands of civilians dead.
Sri Lanka has dismissed Canada's objection.
