Sanghai Cooperation Organisation

Sanghai Cooperation Organisation is an Eurasian regional grouping.It was founded in 2005, it has Russia, China , Kazakhastan, Tajikistan,  Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan as its member.India is an observer to the organisation and is weighing its option to join the organsiation. It was initially formed as a counterbalance to NATO. Turkey a member of NATO and EU is also interested in becoming a member.US was denied to become an observer. Russia and other central asian republics support India becoming a member.

SCO has been playing important role in maintaining regional security and developing economy.Sanghai five , founded in 1996, was its predecessor. after Uzbekkistan joining it in 2001, it was renamed as Sanghai Cooperation Organisation.
