G8 Declaration on Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict

Speaking at the launch of G-8 Declaration on Preventing Sexual Violence in London on 11 April 2013, hague, special representative of the UN Secretary General, said that rape and sexual violence is one of the most horrific weapons in conflicts around the globe. He further said that tens of  thousands of women were raped in Bosnia-Herzegovina  in 1990s, hundreds of thousands in Rawanda genocide and upto a quarter of a million in Democratic Republic of Congo.

Zainab Hawa Bangura , Special Representative of the Secretary General on Sexual Violence and Angelina Jolie Special Envoy, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, also spoke on the occasion. Angelia hoped that collective alliance by UN and all governments will put an end to war zone rape and sexual violence.
