Teesta Row

Teesta, a 309 km long river and after  running along entire length of Sikkim state, joins Brahmputra in Bangladesh. It meets Rangeet River at the border of Sikkim and West Bengal.

During Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Bangladesh in Sep 2011, exchange of enclave dispute were resolved but sharing of Teesta water got shelved at the last minute because of strong objections from Mamta Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal.

India was wanting to  give 48 % of water to Bangladesh , which would have precedent for resolving dispute over other 53 rivers. As per Ms banerjee the deal would have given excess water to Bangladesh ( 33000 cubic feet per second or cusecs each year instead of 25,000 cusecs agreed earlier by her.
