Bonn Agreement

Bonn Agreement

The agreement is also known as Agreement on Provisional Arrangements in Afghanistan pending the Re-Establishment of Permanent Government Institutions. Following quick victory of american Forces and Northern Alliance post 9/11,  a series of talks were conducted in Bonn (Germany). The agreements were intended to recreate the state of Afghanistan.

In Dec 2001, a number of prominent Afghans met under the auspices of UN at Bonn. Afghan Interim Authority for a mandate of six month was create on 22 December. It had 30 members headed by a chairman. It was followed by two year Transitional Authority.
