Potti Sriramulu was a political activist, who died in 1952 consequent to hunger strike demanding a state for Telugu speaking people of Madras Presidncy. This led to creation of Andhra State in 1953.Later Telangana regin of Hyderabad state was merged in this Andhra Pradesh in 1956. A State Reorganistion Commission was set up. Although Indian government was not in favour of states on linguistic basis , for fear of balkanization.
