United Wa State Army is 30,000 strong soldiers militant wing of United Wa State Party. Formed in 1980s by detritus of Communist Party of Burma, UWSA is in the news for having received armed helicopters ( MI-17 with TY-90 air-to-air missile.these helicopters would be serious deterrent to Tatmadaw newly acquired Mi-24 P 'Hind' gunships. Hind is being employed in counter insurgency operation against Kachin Independence army (KIA)
