Hefazat-e-Islam



A tightly knit political party of about a dozen Islamist  organisation, who have a following in approx 25000 madarsas across Bangladesh. The party is demanding strict blasphemy law. The party protested strongly on 5 May, in which 28 people have died. 
A main opposition party ,Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in alliance with fundamentalist Jamaat-e-Islami has called for two days protest from 8 May.
Hefazat came into limelight since February , when blogger Rajib Haider was killed outside his house. He was demanding death for Jamaat leader( convicted for war crims in 1971), who was given life punishment.
