Dagestan means a land (stan) of mountains (Dagh). Located on southernmost part of Russia and Caspian Sea on it s East, it is Russia's most ethnically diverse Russian Republic.
Makhachakala is its Capital.The city was in news because parents of Boston Bombing suspects live here.today also, there was an explosion in busy street of Makhachakala, which killed two people. Last week, three police persons were killed in Dagestan, when they came under fire. Tamerlan, Boston Bombing suspect who was killed in a shootout, had paid a long visit to Dagestan last year. Insurgents frequently mount attack on Police and security forces in this area.
