Avro Hawker Sideley HS 748


64 Avro HS 748, a twin engine turbotrop aircraft, initially procured from united Kingdom and later license produced by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The aircraft were used for lifting troops and weapons, ammunition but the task was handed over to AN-12 and AN-32. Avro performed VVIP  movement duties, which was also taken over by Brazilian Embraer -135 jets in 2005. at present 30 odd aircraft are being used for training and communication roles.
IAF is planning to replace Avro aircrafts with 56 aircrafts in 6-8 ton payload capability. This would be at a cost of $ 3 billion.
