IRNSS-1A :India's First Navigation Satellite


IRNSS-1A( The Indian Regional Navigation Satellite system 1 A) , sheduled to be launched on 01 July 2013, is an independent regional navigation satellite system. The launch would be on board PSLV-22C( Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle) from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.It is similar to Global Posioning  System    ( GPS).

Once operational, it would provide position accurace of better than 10 Meters, over India and 1500 km around the country. It will provide a real time, all weather, 24x7 service on real time position, Navigation and Time( PNT) to a variety of platforms.1425 Kg IRNSS-1A has a life span of 10 years. ISRO  has planned a constellation of seven satellites by 2014-15.  Apart from use in disaster management, it would have many military uses and will help security forces in operations against insurgents and terrorists.
