Indian Maritime Agenda 2020 is a perspective pan for the period 2010-2020. It aims to increase fleet strength, upgrade existing ports, strengthen cargo handling capacity,development of marine human resources and install security related real time kinematic system in sensitive sectors.

India has 7517 km of coastline with only only 13 ports. in Europe in 1000 km coastline there would be 10-11 ports.We also want to increase our share of global tonnage from 1 % to 5 % and for which 1.2 lakh crores is earmarked. Another 3 lakh crores is in the pipeline for infrastructure development of ports and for larger ships.

The Carandiru Massacre - To suppress a rebellion Police shot 102 prisoners , some at point blank range. Some had surrendered and were naked were also shot.Now, a Brazilian court has sentenced 23 police officers to 156 years each in jail.

Colonel Ubiratan Guimaraes, who commanded the operations to suppress the rebellion, was sentenced to 632 years ! though his conviction dropped as declared a mistrial, he was found dead in his apartment with gunshot injury.

Shakuntala Devi

Shakuntala Devi died at 73. A child prodigy and fastest human computer, she could work out 23 rd root of 201 digit number. In less than 28 seconds, she could multiply mentally two-13 digit number and give 26 digit number answer.

When a helicopter was being fired upon during evacuation after a gun fight, the helicopter had to take off immediately. Five commandos missed the helicopter. Four reached safely , however, to their base camp, but unfortunately Prasad moved in another direction and lost his way. He was captured and killed by Maoists.Though police did not enter the forests , but an UAV captured the image of the slain officer. The decomposed body of the Inspector Prasad was received after mediation by tribal leaders and civil liberties activists.

Greyhounds, the elite anti-Maoist force of Andhra Pradesh Police

The Greyhounds force is an elite anti-naxal force that specialises in conducting jungle warfare applying guerrilla tactics to counter those of the Maoists. It has been highly successful in demolition of Maoists’ stronghold in Andhra Pradesh.

Intending to equip states before launching a fight to finish war against Maoists, the Union Cabinet on Tuesday gave its approval to the home ministry's plan to raise anti-Naxal special forces in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha andChhattisgarh on the lines of Greyhounds of Andhra Pradesh and sanctioned additional fund for the purpose.

The specialized forces, capable of hot pursuit across the inter-state borders, will be set up with personnel fully trained in guerilla warfare and required infrastructure within six months.

The fund, to the tune of Rs 280 crore, will be disbursed to these four states by the home ministry under its ongoing Scheme for Special Infrastructure (SSI). Part of the sum will also be used to upgrade infrastructure of Andhra Pradesh Police and its Greyhounds force.
