Govt clears bill to scrap collegium system for appointment of judges to higher courts

The Cabinet approved the bill which entails replacing the collegium system with a Judicial Appointments Commission wherein it will have a say in appointment of judges of the Supreme Court and the 24 high courts.

Angela Merkel has become the first chancellor to visit Germany's former concentration camp at Dachau, where she expressed 'deep sorrow and shame'. She described Nazi era as a horrible and unprecedented chapter of the history.
Located at the site of an abandoned ammunition factory, is was the first camp set up to hold political prisoners and later Jews. The concentration camp was heavily guarded  and was surrounded by a wall and electrically charged barbed wire fence. according to one estimate, out of 2 lakh prisoners held about 30,000 died due to disease and malnurition.

German Chancellor's Military Aircraft Security Breached, when a man in his underpants danced on the wings of the Airbus 319  parked in Cologne's airport closed   military sections.It took almost three hours for the authorities to get him off from the plane. He was touching buttons in the cockpit, when he inadvertently triggered an alarm. Angela Merkel is the present chancellor of Germany

The aircraft had enough fuel to go upto China and ready for take off, had he known how the fly it !

Nepal's election for November doubtful

Caretaker government of Chief Justice has started taking bold administrative decisions and have also presented a full one year budget in July. This is giving rise to doubts in the minds of the people of Nepal about holding of rescheduled election in November. Regmi was a compromise candidate for heading the caretaker government, but because of the delay in holding elections he is getting criticism from even his supporters.

Gorkhaland

The hilly areas of Darjeeling has been Nepali speaking and centre for agitation for Gorkhaland. Darjeeling was not a part of Bengal and it was leased to British by Sikkim in 1835.  A movement by Shubash Ghising of Gorkha National Liberation Front in 1986-88 led to creation of Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council , as semi autonomous governing body.

Later Gorkha Janmukto Morcha's effort for a separate Gorkhalnad state led to the creation of   Gorkha Territorial Administration. Mr Gurung resigned from the GTA, after creation of Telangana was announced on 30 July 2013, to fight for a statehood of Gorkhaland.

DIG,SP,DSP alongwith 35 others killed while attending a slain police officers funeral in Pakistan

A mosque inside police lines n Quetta ( Capital city of Balochistan province in Pakistan ) was targeted by a suicide bomber killing 38 persons and injuring 50 others.

Quetta is located in South West of Pakistan.It was a major attack on police forces with 8 kg of explosives used in the attack.Persons killed were mostly police persons. State police chief had a narrow escape, while 300 others had gathered for funeral of a slain police station chief.
no one has claimed the responsibility but the area is infested by Taliban insurgency. as well as tension between Shia's and Sunnis and also Baloch separatists.

More than ten thousand protesters have marched in  tunis, Capital of Tunisia , protesting against Islamist's led government ,demanding their resignation. The protests have been precipitated by killing of prominent opposition leader  a secular Chokri Belaid( six months before)  and Mohamad Brahmi on 25 th July.

The protests are worst since overthrowing of President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali in January 2011, by a popular uprising. Constitution drawing process is already eight months behind schedule and after which elections are due to be held in December.

Border Security Force ( BSF)

Border Security Force ( BSF) is among the world's largest border guarding agencies. It has a strength of 2.4 lakh personnel ( including women constables ). It has 180 battalions. It is primarily responsible for peacetime management of Inia- Pakistan and India- Bangladesh international border having 609 border out posts ( BOP) on Indo-Pak and 802 BOPs on Indo- Bangladesh border. Like other central armed police forces, BSF  functions under Ministry of Home Affairs.

Government s also considering handing over of management of India- Myanmar border to BSF, which is presently being managed by the Assam Rifles.

Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved a fund of  Rs 3,665 crores for developing infrastructure under the 12 th Five Year Plan estimates.
